The 2020 season brought a lot of challenges. The Spikes, brought together by turmoil in the Marion County Rec Department, had an uphill battle. COVID was the fiercest opponent. Games were delayed and cancelled, never to be rescheduled. The boys had to face older players in order to get playing time. Rain cancellations dashed hopes to play boys that were the same age.
However, the boys had some major accomplishments this season. Some of the boys are playing with each other for the first time. Some boys are playing new positions. Field conditions weren't always optimal. Boys pushed through the challenges and grew. We saw improvement behind the plate, in the field and on the mound.
Talking with Coach Jerry, he estimates that next year the team will have the opportunity to play 30+ games. I, for one, am really excited to see it. The boys have a great camaraderie and are working hard on their cohesion as a team. I anticipate great things for 2021!
